VOC Removal/ Photocatalyst

Photocatalysis is a process that refers to a light-catalyzed reaction, a common photocatalysis is photosynthesis in plants. (In photosynthesis, chlorophyll is a photocatalyst which starts to break down carbon dioxide into oxygen under sunlight.

Photocatalyst is a substance that facilitates chemical reactions by photo-irradiation without being transformed. Photocatalyst lower the required “Activated Energy” in a chemical reaction such that the chemical reaction can take place even at room temperature and condition. Since Photocatalyst will not be transformed or consumed during chemical reactions, it can be repeatedly used theoretically.

Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) liquid is one of a commonly use Photocatalyst. On absorbing proper and sufficient ultra-violet (UV) energy from sunlight, redox reaction occurs. When TiO2 comes in contact with oxygen and water vapors in the air under exposure of UV radiation, super oxyacid anion (O2- ) and hydroxyl radical (.OH) will be formed. These free radiates are very efficient oxidize which decompose nearly all un-wanted organic matters into carbon dioxide and water eventually.
